I was very impressed by Mickey he’s very knowledgeable and keeps the class fun but professional. He’s able to take a class full of shooters of different skill levels and make it beneficial for everybody at the same time.

I AM A NEW SHOOTER WHO HAS BLASTED MANY ROUNDS DOWN RANGE AND WATCHED A LOT OF YOUTUBE. I HAVE TRIED TO TRAIN AND ASKED OTHERS FOR HELP, AND RECEIVED IT.
I DON’T HOWEVER THINK THAT ANYTHING BEATS HAVING SOMEONE WHO IS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CONCERNED FOR YOUR PROGRESSION AND SAFETY ON YOUR SIDE.MICKY IS THAT GUY. IT DOESN’T HURT THAT HE HAS A WILD SENSE OF HUMOR EITHER. I PERSONALLY APPRECIATE THAT.
THAT WAS MY EXPERIENCE WITH MR. SCHUCH.
HE WAS VERY AWARE OF HIS CLASS, HIGHLY FOCUSED AT ALL TIMES; KEYED INTO EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING THAT PERTAINED TO SAFETY AND PROPER SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT FOR HIS STUDENTS.
MICKY IS A LEADER WHO WANTS TO HELP OTHERS STAND UP AND BE CAPABLE PROTECTORS OF THEMSELVES AND OTHERS. HE WANTS TO HELP TRAIN THOSE PEOPLE AND HE HAS THE VALUABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AND DESIRE TO BE ABLE TO THAT.
I WOULD SIGN UP FOR ANY CLASS WITH HIM IN A HEARTBEAT. I WANT TO LEARN AND LEARN WELL. HE HAS IN MY OPINION EXACTLY WHAT IT TAKES TO BRING PEOPLE ALONG AND HELP THEIR DEVELOPMENT. HE HAS THE WIT, PATIENCE AND EXPERIENCE AND AWARENESS AND STRENGTH TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH ALL THOSE WILLING TO LET HIM SHOW THEM HOW TO SUCCEED.

When I first started to get into firearms training in 2016, I could not find anyone in my area that did advanced training or provided lessons on how to use a firearm properly and safely past the generic CCW class. I came across a YouTube channel called Carry Trainer. I watched several videos which enabled me to figure out how to do things that made sense. Years have passed and I learned many useful skills. My goal was to become an instructor myself to be able to offer students the safe and informative instruction to help them to be safe that I could not easily find when I started. I became an instructor and have appreciated every step. But, even with as much as I have learned, I yearned to know more. I taught a good class and the students I had left with a strong basic knowledge. But I did not feel like students paying to sit through a power-point presentation was really ‘earning my money”. They deserved more in my opinion. I was sitting home reflecting if I wanted to continue this path and what I could do to become a better instructor who was more hands-on with more knowledge of teaching people how to protect themselves. I was in a chat room on Facebook and Mickey posted a comment. I responded and the next thing I know, I get a private message from Mickey saying, “Hey, call me at this number.” I was skeptical that it was really him, but I called anyway. I was in shock that it was really him. We chatted for about 40 mins or so. The last thing he said was “Hey, we are doing an event called S12. Why don’t you look at it online and let me know what you think.” I watched the videos and was all in psyched. I had spoken to my wife prior about taking other types of advanced training that could really provide useful information on how to be a better instructor. And, like an answered prayer, here is this event! I knew that this was something I had to do after watching the videos over and over. I had to find a way to push myself to do this for the betterment of my family and my students. I registered and spent four intense packed days getting up at break of dawn in the morning and training all day. But this is one the BEST experiences I ever had! The friendships that are made, the stories that are shared over great food and drinks are worth it alone. But it is the training that you get that takes it way beyond anything you can dream of. Mickey alone is a great Instructor. He is sarcastic, yet funny. He can be deadly serious one moment and joke with you the next. His wealth of knowledge and the way he speaks to you make you look inside yourself to figure it all out. Then you add in other instructors on top of that who each have their specialty, and you have a world class event. I learned so much in 4 days from all the instructors. Mickey, Zee, Dan, Brian and Ben make THIS IS THE COURSE TO TAKE. If you are on the fence whether to take a course or if you ever had planned to take a course, the time is now, and this is that course. I know that I will not be able to attend the next S12 due to obligations. But I will get back to do another session soon. And the interaction and mentorship does not end once the S12 is over. Mickey and I are still in contact. He still makes posts and replies personally to messages. He is the Real Deal!

Taking a CarryTrainer class has been at the top of my 2A Bucket list. I finally was able to take the CarryTrainer “Pistol Tune-up Course” with Mickey. He is a terrific Instructor; full of knowledge, insight, experience, & is extremely humorous. Mickey is not merely an instructor, but a great Coach. He has high expectations from each student. He has a great way of coaching others by breaking down the seemingly complex motions of self defense with a firearm into simple and easy to understand segments. In his class, he required the highest level of safety from us and showed great proficiency in his skills both as a teacher & a shooter. He is down to earth, a hairy manly man, with his infectious sense of humor. He mixes the serious nature of why we carry guns in the first place with lighthearted humor to help ease the tension. He paid attention to each student and took the time to approach each of us on how to improve on the skills we were lacking, and continually encouraged us throughout the entire class. I would 100% recommend his courses and will gladly sign up for the next one as soon as I’m able to. Do yourself, your family, and your community a favor: Take a CarryTrainer course and learn how to be the best Protector you can be.

The pistol tune-up course was my first ever firearm training course and I had a good experience. Rain or shine you will learn the fundamentals and become proficient with your firearm. Mickey was extremely knowledgeable and helped me develop good carry practices. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking quality training with some funny theatrics.

I just attended a pistol tune-up course with Michey Schuch and although the day was dreary and wet due to Hurricane Nicole, Michey kept the class fun and engaging. Safety was always a must and adhered to religiously. I would and will recommend him to anyone who has an open mind and a desire to learn not only about the practical shooting aspects but also the practicalities of when to shoot.
Weather: zero stars. Class overall: 5 stars. Michey’s singing: 1 star. Lol!

Great instructor. Attended a two-day pistol class with Mickey. Learned a lot in those two-days, especially about purpose, goal-setting, attention to detail, attention to processes, attention to safety, and mindset. I witnessed a lot of improvement in our class. I was able to take the lessons learned and apply it to my training. Mickey also has the best dick jokes of any instructor. Mickey knows how to have fun while teaching serious skills. I can’t recommend him highly enough. Thank you Mickey. I look forward to taking another class with you.

I had a great time at the Pistol Tune Up class with Mickey and Verne. Excellent material and coaching. The two things I really appreciated about the course (aside from the material) was (1) Mickey’s presentation of the material. While there was a supreme emphasis on safety and seriousness of the course, Mickey didn’t take himself too seriously which made for a more relaxed environment than what I was expecting. That certainly lead to an environment that was more conducive to learning. (2) I appreciated that Mickey’s course included the right amount of challenge and stress (i.e. moving while shooting, rapid firing, etc.)

I will absolutely be attending future classes with Mickey and would encourage anyone, regardless of skill level (but definitely newer shooters), to do the same.

I participated in the Kingston Pistol Refresh Class and couldn’t have been more pleased. My goal was to build upon my gun handling competency and Mickey training met my goal. Mickey was passionate about safety and making sure that all of us got out of the instruction what we needed. We focused on real world situations and drawing from the hoister, reloading on the fly, shooting on the move and more. The goal was to give us solid technics we could use in our future training regiments. If you have a CCL, I’d recommend you it to take this class to expand your gun handling skills. I’d highly recommend this class.

Great 2 days working on pistol skills, I found myself challenged and learned about my stress reaction in addition to shooting skills. I took away concrete examples of drills and progressions to use at my range . Felt like I got more than my money’s worth – which I appreciate. As an instructor, Mickey is doing as least a much work as the students and (it feels like) he does not miss much. The feedback and critique is direct and in real time. I could see some bad habits I had developed in my draw stroke, magazine management and sight picture acquisition. I feel I got good instruction and reps to improve. Really appreciate the program and look forward to doing it again. Thank you.

Scratched, brass-burned, calloused, tired, and sore with a weird tan, I had the best weekend training pistol and rifle for 3-days under Mickey Schuch of #CarryTrainer in Kingston, MI.

Besides having a legit new friend and brother, Mick instilled in me an insurmountable number of repeatable and measurable lessons, processes and tactics, it’s . Can’t wait to hit my gun club each week and reproduce what I learned, develop and hone these new skills.

I could not recommend Mickey’s YouTube channel nor his in-person courses more; check him out!

Mickey was very knowledgeable. He hit safety hard. Especially muzzle awareness. This class was great for all shooters from beginners to seasoned veterans. Learning about “dope” was one of my favorite parts, as a reloaded that information is very useful to me. He made the class very fun by challenging us to meet “x” time and we would win apparel, ammo, or bragging rights. Great class!

I attended my first S12 and also first Carry Trainer Class, I felt welcome from the minute I got there till it was time to leave. I had watched videos so I kind of knew what to expect, but there was so much more than what the videos show. The level of talent there from all of the instructors was incredible. I come from an Advanced Teen Driving School instructor background, and was really impressed by ALL of the Instructors there. There were some things I missed during training, but it was never because of the instructors, you’re fed a LOT of information. I learned the things I was good at and what I really need to work hard on. I will definitely go back again, just to learn more. Those in charge also preach safety all the time and I never felt uncomfortable around any of the attendees there. The nice thing about this course is you participate in shooting drills that you can’t practice at your local gun range, skills that you may need to use if it all goes bad. I would definitely recommend this course for any shooter who wants to improve their skills. Oh and the FOOD at S12 was INCREDIBLE and the people I met there were amazing.

This was my first time attending S12, and I wasn’t totally sure on what to expect. I have watched previous S12 event videos on YouTube but let me say that they do no convey the whole S12 event, it’s more like a family reunion with Mickey being that one Uncle telling the dick jokes.

First, I would like to thank Mickey and Sharon for putting on this event. The amount of knowledge and experience of all the instructors combined is truly amazing from former Police, Military, Martial Arts, and Medical Staff. Everyone of the instructors were personable and willing to answer your questions and engage with you when you approached them. Everyone was willing to lend a hand and I would highly recommend taking a S12 Event class at least once.

I would also like to thank all the support staff, instructors, and sponsors of this event, without you it would not be possible to receive this training. And for anyone attending I know its exciting and a great experience but be courteous during the instruction, there is plenty of time to have discussions during mealtime.

I learned a lot, and I have made a list of actionable items I need to work on to make myself better before I attend my next S12 Event in the future.

I took the one day Pistol Tune Up course and was very pleased with the class. Mickey is very knowledgeable and offered very good instruction. I appreciated his attitude towards safety and general gun rules. He won’t hesitate to call you out if you do something unsafe, however at the same time, he won’t hammer you with insults, he will point out the mistake, tell you the proper technique, and then move on. He’s a no nonsense person and will tell you if he disagrees with a de-facto standard and why he feels the way he does. I feel he kept very good control of the class and we were always working on something. I came away from the course with a lot of good information and I will be applying what I learned during my practice this year. I will definitely be taking the course again next year and I’m already looking forward to it.

If it seems like I put all stars, I did. It’s not a mistake and I’m not embellishing. I took away from his course “Pistol & Pistol Carbine” information I genuinely needed to be more proficient in proper firearm handling. The information was informative and simple for me to understand, but I didn’t know what I didn’t know, and now I do. I look forward to being a part of his next course, there’s a lot to learn. I can’t afford to miss it.

Do the right thing, at the right time, every time!

What I learned this week, is that you have to KNOW what the right thing is. Mickey S. through his course taught me that.

I was fortunate enough to snag an open spot a week prior to Mickey’s arrival in South Florida. I have been an Instagram follower of his for about a year so it was a race to open my wallet and make sure no one else took the spot once I found out about it. The Pistol Tune Up class was great. I really appreciate Mickeys dedication to safety and keeping the muzzle “dominated”. The drills we ran through definitely helped with my confidence in being able to use my pistol should ever the need arise and reinforced the need for me to dry fire more often. I like that he emphasizes a holistic approach and that health, fitness, strength and relationships are just as mportant as pistol skills. Mickey’s sense of humor kept everyone laughing and made the day even more enjoyable. I’m looking forward to taking another class of his the next time he makes it down here.

I ended up in Mickeys class on a whim. Two of my good friends found he was hosting a course near by in NJ and invited me to go with them. I walked into his course with absolutely no idea what to expect from the instructor, or the course outside of the basic safety and marksmanship stuff. Honestly I had never been to class like this before and as a high anxiety person, it was a lot to take in, hell I didn’t even remember Mickeys name until half way through the first day.

Once I got more settled I was extremely happy with the class, Mickey is a great dude who is as entertaining as he is knowledgeable, and he seems to be an extremely knowledgeable dude about not only shooting & Safety but life in general. Mickey also picked up on my anxiety level right away and made sure to tweak his methods when giving me pointers to try and help me get more relaxed.

I absolutely left his course a safer, and more skilled shooter with a new arsenal of tools to use for improving my skills on my own outside the class. I would recommend anyone of any skill level to take a course with Mickey.

“Veni, vidi, vici” will work the best.
    I came to Mickey’s training.
I saw how he worked with Students,
    I conquered my imperfections.

One of the best training sessions I’ve been attanting. It doesn’t matter if you are pro shooter or rookie, you will spend good time with great people.
I got my goal before the training then worked on it and found it accomplished by the end of the day.
You can watch Carry Trainer’s YouTube videos, but it’s not the same as working with him in person.

i attended the pistol tune-up course in MI. Being my first training of this type, I didn’t know what to expect. Mickey was great. He does a great job of reading the class regarding the level of tension or anxiety and skill levels. He was patient with the beginner shooters, but kept the class moving for those of us with more experience. All benefitted. The class paced well, with instruction, levity, appropriate breaks, etc. What makes Mickey great is that he doesn’t just drill shooting skills. He talks about life goals, mindset, etc. I left the class a better shooter, as well as taking away several bigger picture things to think about. I will definitely be signing up for another experience with Carry Trainer.

I attended the Carry Trainer 3-day pistol/rifle class conducted by Mickey in Kingston, Michigan. This was a great experience for sure! Mickey is a dynamic individual, a master marksman, and a great instructor. He focuses on gun safety, minding the muzzle at all times, and is an expert at recognizing what you need to change to become a better shooter. I improved on my fundamental skills and had several take-aways that I am now practicing to improve my shooting performance. Mickey balances training with real-life applications. The guidance he gave and the drills we performed better prepared us for an actual violent incident, not just shooting at stationary targets. By challenging you to perform, you quickly learn your weaknesses. Mickey then takes the time to show you what you are doing wrong so you can improve. He also stresses the importance of training with specific goals in mind. A final thought about Mickey, he is very intelligent, articulate, and loves to train and have fun doing so. It was the best training I have ever had, and I look forward to attending future classes with Mickey.

I attended Carry Trainer’s pistol tune-up class in Kingston, MI. Mickey is a master teacher. His attention to detail is first class. I recommend him to my friends. What I expected was to feel safe, to improve my shooting fundamentals, to be challenged, and to have some of my weaknesses exposed. I got what I expected and more. You definitely get more than what you pay for. Mickey balances group and individual instruction perfectly. He can see what you need to work in and he will show you how. Most importantly, Mickey places the training he provides in the proper context. He challenges his students to think about what they are doing, why they are doing it, to have the proper goals and to develop a way to work towards them. He wants his students to be thinking and responsible practitioners who have the right tools. He emphasizes one’s responsibility to train and to train mindfully. The class was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to attending more classes with Mickey and Carry Trainer.

Mick is not only an amazing instructor on the gun range, but he’s a life instructor. His abilities stretch far beyond the gun range. He is an inspiration to be a better version of yourself and own it. Not only do you learn top notch gun training drills, but you have a great time doing it. The habits you start with Mick will train you to have composure should you ever need to call on those skills.

I attended Mickey’s 3 day rifle and pistol course in Peoria ARIZONA this March of 2021 and it was by far the greatest class I have ever attended. I could jit wait to get to the ranch each morning . I also attended Mickey class in March of 2020 in Casa Grande Arizona. Mickey is not just a great shooter but also a great teacher. He explains everything in detail and makes all of the information that he is pressing to his students simple to understand. Mickey is patient with people regardless of what your skill level is and he wants to see everyone in the class improve. I love the fact that Mickey always stresses safety at all times and he explains why we are doing a specific drill and why it’s important. My skills definitely improved from the 2020 class in Casa Grande to the 2021 class in Peoria. Mickey also makes his classes fun and we as a class laugh a lot. I appreciate the fact that there instructors like Mickey who really care about seeing his students excel and improve. Regardless of where your skill level is, taking ANY of Mickey’s classes are worth every penny and he will meet you at your skill level and help you improve!!

My wife and I attended Mickey’s 4-day course in Arizona, which consisted of Pistol Tune-Up and Rifle training. We both learned so much and we were impressed at the high level of experience MIckey brings to the table. He has spent many years studying and learning the field of shooting and helping people to become more prepared for a violent encounter. His experience and passion for the subject are obvious. Mickey did a great job of keeping the courses interesting and challenging. He combined a high level of activity with portions of lecture, during which he covered topics from medical training and equipment to legal considerations. We will be attending the S12 Event next. I would highly recommend Mickey’s training to anyone who is serious about being better prepared. Don’t hesitate to sign up for a course, you will be glad you did.

I attended a two day pistol class in Michigan taught by Mickey and it was fantastic. I am a seasoned pistol shooter and I was able to pick up several valuable tips and training techniques to improve my shooting. Throughout the weekend, Mickey provided feedback tailored to each individual shooters skill level. Beginners were coached at an appropriate level while those with more experience where pushed to new level. During the breaks, I enjoyed the talks which are really life lessons to ponder. Don’t let Mickey hear you say anything negative such as “I’ll probably mess this up” as he will laser focus on you for a motivational reprimand. That being said, Mickeys approach is an excellent balance between being serious when appropriate while maintaining a light-hearted atmosphere. Heck, I was entertained throughout the weekend. I will be attending another class next summer.

Going in are goal was to become more confident and sufficient shooters . We most definitely accomplished that goal . Mickey doesn’t just teach you to shoot , he also teaches you the mind set to excel to that next level but also that mind set to have in this crazy world in real life situations. Would highly recommend Mickey at Carry Trainer. Looking forward to more classes in the future.

Mickey is top-notch instructor – for both the inexperienced (I’m a newbie to firearms) and those who have been doing it for decades. His attention to detail, safety, and mix of lecture and experiential is perfectly balanced. His dedication to his students and this movement is apparent in how he conducts himself, and (in my opinion) his humor and ability to be entertaining while being informative is part of what makes his teachings so memorable and impactful. Recommend his videos and in-person instruction for anyone who wants to improve their techniques and accuracy.

I’ve highly recommend Mickey to my close friends and family. I wouldn’t do that I didn’t trust him as a coach and dare I say mentor in the art. Mickey cares enough to take the time to help every shooter improve. What are your goals?

    Mickey,
thank you so much. This was one of the greatest experiences, The S12 event was excellent. At the range, I take up the trigger slack Squeeze the trigger and shoot the center of the target. The S12 experience exposed me to real life events. Moving and shooting on the move, shooting from unorthodox positions , clearing a house and much more. It showed me, that I couldn’t put all the skills together sight picture, trigger press. It gave me a base to build on in the future for real life. The safety was excellent when someone didn’t do the right thing. You were there to correct and remind us of correct procedure. Your passion for the students was evident. The other instructors were the best of the best.. World class event !!!!!

Mickey is a awesome instructor. He breaks everything down and keeps things simple. I liked the fact that Mickey always, in every part of the class, safety always came first. CHaving the proper grip was always what I struggled with until I went to Mickeys class. He is is strict and lets you know when you screw up but also let’s you know when you do something right. He made the class extremely fun. The personalized attention he gave me at times was priceless. Mickey truly knows what he is teaching and he cares about the students he is training and wants to see them excel. The class far exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be taking more of Mickeys classes in the future.

Mick is an excellent Instructor that goes above and beyond to provide a learning environment that’s useful for beginners, experts, and those in between. He is great in delivering information, critiquing the shooter’s performance behind the gun, and provoking new thought. His teaching style deviates from dogmatic processes of instructing and motivates his students to be better. Most of all, Mick strives to light a fire under his students to be better in all aspects of life, to think a little deeper, to be more mindful of one’s surroundings, and to appreciate life and what it is. His three-day pistol/rifle class was incredibly fun. He demands the highest level of discipline in safely handling firearms, and established his credibility as a skilled, experienced instructor quickly through his actions on the range. He diagnoses bad shooting habits and shows the shooter how to improve their skill. I’m eager to train with him again soon.

This is my third class with Mickey, and will continue to go to more next time bringing my son and daughter with me. This is a class that will push you to your best ability and open your eyes to what reality you face and how well you react to it. If you plan to carry a gun practice, practice, and practice but before you can practice take some classes. Practicing is only as good as what you know, so learn from good people like Mickey and your practice can then save you and the ones that surround you. The way of the gun is like anything in life you can always learn more and if you don’t use it you lose it, so keep an open mind, always be aware, surround yourself with good people, and stay on top of your training. Thank you Mickey for the camaraderie and knowledge, I look forward to more training classes with you and your friends.

Recently completed my third Carry Trainer class with Mickey and look forward to many more. I’d trust Mick to train my wife and kids, probably that says enough about my opinion of his knowledge and his skill as an educator… but I’ll go on: each class with Mick has been more thought-provoking, challenging, and fun than the last. Would recommend him to anyone of any skill level who in hungry for measurable improvements in their competencies with firearms. That said, the area in which Mick’s training has had the biggest impact to my life is in developing the mindset that I leave the house with everyday. There is a mindful, process-driven component to Mick’s instruction that I haven’t found in any of the other training courses I’ve attended. Can’t wait to get back in class with him.

The focus on Safety was intense as one would expect when handling loaded impliments of destruction (firearms). Instruction of concise and very understandle. If any further explination was required it was provided without hesitation. Mickey is a very knowledgeable man. Highly recommend his instrcution, he also enjoys a good bannana peel. Took the three day pistol and rifle course with Mickey this weekend in Clermont, FL. I could not have asked for a better weekend of training and fellowship. The instruction was great and tailored to the specific shooter’s needs and abilities. If you needed help, he gave it to you. If you knew what you were doing and just needed a little tweak here and there, he did that too. Safety was of the utmost priority and never waivered. The drills were fun and he gave us real world context to them instead of just shooting holes into a piece of paper. We worked hard when we needed to and laughed a lot in between. I highly recommend Mickey and will definitely be back for another class.

Great experience. I completed Mick’s 2 day pistol class in NJ back in OCT. His ideas and mentality behind owning, carrying, and training with a firearm are simplistic but effective. He takes a lot of the BS you here from tacticool trainers and throws it out and gets to the root of what you’re trying to accomplish. I have been utilizing a lot of the content provided since the class and have found it invaluable. I have seen drastic improvements in my shooting especially shooting and moving. I can’t wait to take another class with him and continue to master my craft! Thanks Mick!

BY DAY TWO ALL THE JITTERS WERE GONE. NOW I FEEL MORE CONFIDENT IN MYSELF AND MY PISTOL SKILLS. WHAT A GREAT GUY. HE’S EVEN FUNNIER IN PERSON. IN HIS CLASS YOU FEEL SAFE THE WHOLE TIME. IN MY OPINION HE IS MY FAVORITE. THERE ARE MANY GREAT TEACHERS OUT THERE BUT YOU CAN TELL MICKEY DOES IT BECAUSE HE LOVES IT. HE IS WHAT WE CALL IN THE ARMY “HIGH SPEED LOW DRAG”. HIS CLASS ISN’T JUST ABOUT PISTOL SHOOTING ITS ABOUT KNOWING THY SELF. THERE IS ONE PACE THE WHOLE TIME WHEN YOUR IN HIS COURSE AND THAT IS SELF AWARENESS. HE MAINTAINS A POSITIVE ATTITUDE THE WHOLE TIME YOU ARE WITH HIM. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIS CLASSES. WORTH EVERY PENNY. GOT NOTHIN BUT LOVE FOR YOU MICKEY.

I have taken a few pistol classes, and have had extensive firearms training during my time in special operations as an Army Ranger. Mickey was among the best instructors i have ever had. The way he runs his classes is excellent for the newer shooter, all the way up to career shooters. He uses real life situations and backs his instruction with real world data. He starts slow with the basics, and works up to shooting on the move.
I learned a lot during the two day pistol class my wife an i attended. He covered shooting accurately, shooting stance, shooting grip, reloading, movement, situational awareness, target acquisition and identification, shooting from compromised positions, shooting while being bumped around, and many other topics.
The entire class was run with the highest degree of safety and professionalism. I am already looking forward to attending another class.
Mickey made sure everyone was comfortable before moving on to more complex tasks, he is a great guy and I cannot recommend his class enough. If you own or carry a firearm for protecting yourself and your family, you owe it to them and yourself to be the best shooter you’re able to be.

Took the 2-day pistol class at Top Guns in Terre Haute, IN. Top rate facility.

The drills started with the basics and emphasis was on safety and technique which is what I wanted; not an emphasis on speed.

Over the two days my confidence increased and I noticed that my markmanship improved steadily. Up to this point my shot pattern was always random. As the class progressed I noticed that I was no longer missing to the left or right, just up and down. When we stepped up at the end of day 2 to do the final bullseye drill, I was confident that I would nail it and I did; all the shots were touching each other.

Mickey can make you a better shooter and put you on a solid path toward defending yourself and loved ones.

I took the 2 day pistol course with Mickey Schuch of Carry Trainer, and I am just blown away by the experience.

This is the second pistol course I have ever taken, and was quite nervous, as I have been a big fan of his YouTube channel and Higher Line podcast (extravaganza) for quite sometime.

My nerves were quickly eased by his personable and professional attitude. The man is not only down to earth, but extremely thorough in his curriculum. Classroom time was fun and engaging.

Range time was amazing as well. He quickly develops an idea of where everyone’s skill level is, and caters to each individual bringing the whole group up to speed in a fun and efficient way. Safety is always his number one priority. The pace was never dull, and full of really intresting and fun drills. Highly recommended.

Training was a absolute pleasure with Mickey from Carry Trainer.. Started off with a well thought out classroom period followed with tons of range time.. Really felt like i took something away from this two day instruction.. Safety was always top priority and we were evaluated to determine how instruction should progress for the time in class.. Description of this class was met and exceeded, would take another with Mickey anytime I could and plan on it in future. Before this two day event I had only taken one or two hour classes at a local range.. Here I was able to get comfortable and relaxed to take full advantage of Mickeys knowledge and teaching ability..

One of the most fun & rewarding experiences I’ve had. I took part in the 2 Day Pistol Course in Bellevue, Iowa. Before the class, Mickey lays out exactly what to bring and is available for any pre-class concerns/questions you bring. As a student be prepared to be challenged, learn, and challenge yourself.

Knowledge: Mickey is very open with his background, who he’s learned from, and what he has to offer. Mickey will explain and bring comprehensive knowledge of many different subject matters that most pistol classes lack. Yes you’ll learn good skills & technique, but he also brings together knowledge for before & after the fight (things like first aid, carry insurance, carry laws). A pistol class doesn’t have to just be about guns and how to shoot, Mickey brings much more.

Skills: There’s lots of skillful gun instructors, Mickey’s skills aren’t just shooting related. He’s able to breakdown and communicate in a way that is easy to understand. The shooting techniques he uses are things we can all use to be successful. The situation changes but the fundamentals don’t.

Experience: Mickey just doesn’t teach in one town, one classroom. He travels all over the country, collaborates with people of all walks of life. He’s always on the move and is willing to come to a state/city near you. It definitely makes things more interesting to listen to when you know you have an instructor who is always learning, going to new places, and refining his instruction. As a student, you get the necessary practice/experience that can be refined and worked upon well after the class ends. Paraphrasing instructor Zee, You will have much more exposure which leads to composure.

Helpfulness: Mickey is more than willing to repeat/reshow you anything you need clarification on. He provides top notch resources/recommendations. A lot of people are often afraid to speak up in class, so usually if one person has a question, most of the class has the same question, and he makes it a point to address the whole class.

Safety: Mickey makes your safety paramount so you don’t feel unsafe from anyone else or yourself. He makes sure you are aware and practice good finger/muzzle discipline, shooting at safe targets, and makes sure all the students feel comfortable amongst a group of shooters. If you’re concerned about a safe class, Mickey keeps a safe environment.

Spend the money, take the time to seek a class from Mickey. Don’t regret not signing up. It’s okay to be a little nervous/anxious going into class. Instead of spending extra money on a new gun you don’t need, get the instruction that you can use to better yourself and those around you. Latch onto greatness and it will pull you to where you want to be. I latch myself to instructors like Mickey, and I am grateful for the journey.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Mickey. He is a huge role model to me. Between his classes his videos and his podcasts I’ve learned more from him than anybody. His classes are amazing, the amount of knowledge this guy has for everything that goes into self defense and to being a better person for yourself and those around you is incredible. I can really tell in the two classes I’ve taken with Mickey that he really cares about his students improvement throughout the class, he will push you to get as much improvement out of you as he can in each class and I truly appreciate that. I could seriously write a book on all the things I’ve learned from Mickey. He’s a great man doing great things can’t thank him enough for everything he has thought me and I can’t wait for my next class with him.

Mickey was awesome!! His importance of safety was incredible – he doesn’t miss a thing! He puts everything in perspective that you do in training to how it could affect you or relate to circumstances in real life which makes you realize just how important the training is. The drills you do make you want to keep practicing after the training to get better. His passion and enthusiasm for guns and safety is contagious!!

Mickey and his team conduct a challenging, constructive and safe training program. Mickey emphasizes the fundamentals of handling, manipulating and operating a firearm while providing a contextual framework for solving the problem. Moreover, Mickey and his team share real-life examples and statistics regarding incidents involving a firearm so that you have a clear perspective on the potential outcomes of taking or not taking action. The Pistol Class emphasized the mental aspects well as physiological components of training to become a better shooter. The program is laid-out in a manner that each step builds upon each other and by the end of the class, you will leave a more competent and confident shooter.

I highly recommend Mickey and Carry Trainer and believe the program is a great value for the quality of the training you will receive.

I watched Mickey on You Tube, so I had an understanding of the way he teaches. His course was very interesting and kept the entire class engaged the whole time. Mickey”s class was totally different than any class I have ever taken, in a good way. He teaches on a level you can understand. I have a totally different mind set on training. I now train to be aware of my surroundings, moving, and making sure the threat is down. If you are going to the range, make sure you have a reason and purpose fro training. I can easily see me attending another class.

I attended Mickey’s Defensive Pistol Course in Shelton, WA in 2019 with my wife and some buds.

We all found the course to be eye-opening, humbling, but most of all — empowering. Although it was ‘only’ two full days, we came away from the course having improved more than we would have after months of shooting on our own.

Mickey focuses on real-world applications and drills on how to be effective in self-defense scenarios. Like Mr. Miyagi, he has a reason for every drill he teaches, and by the end of it, all of that knowledge comes together and makes perfect sense.

Our class was slightly overbooked, but we had the extra hand of Verne — a ret. USAF SOF guy with a ton of knowledge and insight, who was extremely supportive and helpful. Being around so many shooters of varying skill levels forced us all to take great care in safety and building the sort of trust needed in that environment.

Mickey is a legitimately great guy and a fun instructor who willy very bluntly tell you when you’re wrong about something, but who is also equally open to feedback and willing to talk. He was quick to respond to the few unsafe range practices (student errors) and spent a lot of time demonstrating the drills himself for people who are more visual learners.

I’m by no means a First-Timer when it comes to shooting, but I was still humbled and grateful for the experience and would absolutely sign up again in the future. The classmates that I signed up alongside me were more-or-less new to concealed carry and came away just as empowered and satisfied, having barely a thousand rounds under their belt prior to the course.

I highly recommend Carry Trainer for anyone from a first-time shooter, all the way up to active duty military, veterans, LEOs, or even competition shooters. You will learn, build confidence in your abilities, and you will be encouraged to push yourself to new plateaus of performance — I promise!

    Thank you, Mickey!

I took Mickey’s Pistol course in Amherst Ohio and was thoroughly impressed. The course is very detailed covering all aspects of the concealed carry topics that would make you extremely proficient. Mickey is an excellent instructor and very good in teaching everyone in their own way. I would highly recommend any of Mickey’s courses from Carry Trainer.

Mickey’s class was a blast. He had everyone cracking up but kept our range time focused and safe.

With his help we covered everything from the basics of handgun control to more advanced tactics like close contact shooting, shooting while moving, and cover based combat. We learned a ton and had a lot of fun.

Really unexpected was the way Mickey challenged our minds and pushed a positive mental perspective. It was a surprise but welcome. The class was fantastic and I recommend anyone interested in self defense or handgun combat take his class. I know I will be back for sure.

I would highly recommend taking a Carry Trainer class with Mickey! He is very knowledgeable on many subjects, but not the kind of person that comes across as a “know it all”. He has a great personality, which I believe is necessary in communicating well with students. He stresses safety, which makes you feel more comfortable shooting with many people that you don’t know. The only complaint I have, is that the class was a little crowded for the range. Which Mickey acknowledged and apologized to the class for. If you can’t a few cuss words, and don’t like to have a good time while training then don’t go! See you in the woods at 0440

I took the 3 day rifle/pistol class. Frankly, the class was far more advanced than I had expected when comparing it to the cost of other courses.
Safety is always a major concern for me during training classes, but Mickey runs a tight ship where safety is concerned. Spot on!
Other courses I have taken in the past were good, but when they were done, I couldn’t wait to get out the door. This was different! It was the only class I have attended that I didn’t want to see end.

We took a 3 day, 24 hour, rifle pistol course. I was blown away! Mickey invested time, skill, and energy to help me improve. He was patient and helped engraine consistency in my training. He was able to get in my head with psychology and reinforced that I’m only as good as I allow my self to think I am. He helped me confidently own every shot and work through failure and made sure I didnt allow one bad shot ruin the remainder of my day on the range. I also appreciate that Mickey took the time and energy to get to know everyone of us in his class. This was definitely worth the invested time!

A couple months ago I attended one of Carrytrainer(Mickey ‘s) pistol classes In New Jersey. I stumbled upon Carrytrainer by browsing youtube in attempt to find some training drills and shooting information. So glad I discovered this dude.
I initially signed up for a carry trainer class in Tennessee. I live in New York but I was more than willing to travel in order to attend one of his classes. Fortunately for me they added a class in New Jersey shortly after I signed up for the Tennessee class. Carrytrainer had no problem accommodating my request to switch classes.
The course was a live fire 2 day class at a secluded range in northern New Jersey. We covered everything from accuracy, trigger manipulation, drawing from the holster, moving while shooting, shooting from different positions, etc. etc. etc… The knowledge I acquired and retained from that weekend is invaluable.
I’ve taken a few courses prior to this, but this one was hands down the best one I ever attended. Mickey is a super nice guy. He’s patient with students, like myself who are somewhat new to pistol shooting. He doesn’t judge your abilities or weaknesses. He uses his charismatic personality to make you the student feel comfortable and relaxed despite any lack of ability. I promise that if you take one of his classes you will leave a better shooter and more then likely a slightly better person in general.

I attended Mickey’s 2 day Defensive Pistol course in Smithville TX Oct 27/28. I’ll try to not get into the weeds but here’s the important stuff:

    Mickey knows shooting

Mickey knows how to relate what he knows in a concise manner

Mickey runs a smooth and thorough program

Mickey is an easy man to talk to and is truly concerned about why you are in the class and what you hope/want to accomplish by attending

Mickey will help you work through any issues you may be having and will take as much time as it takes to get you squared away

In parting, I drove 9 hours each way to take this class. I would not hesitate to do the same again. It was worth the time, effort and money for 2 days with Mickey learning my weaknesses as a shooter and coming to grips with my shortcomings. Mickey will push you and get you to dig deep for your Higher Line.

Mickey, it was a pleasure getting instructed by you. As an educator, I was fortunate enough for you to accept me the way you did. While I was the least experienced shooter of the bunch, you still took time and patience to work with me, at times when I felt I slowed down the group. Your attention to detail, patience while instructing and overall knowledge of what it is you do, made me a believer and actually made me hang up my concealed carry until I more competently attain the skills necessary to take this responsibility seriously. While I had many guns, using them proficiently and breaking bad habits made me a rank amateur. Your course showed me this. I told you when you are in Philly again to look me up, I owe you a cheesesteak and beer homey! Continue doing what it is you do, this should be required for anyone who has a concealed carry permit in this country, I learned this at your course. To think how scary it is that so many of us are walking around with guns, and no clue how to really operate them, especially in a serious capacity if that time ever comes!! Thanks again Mickey!

I’ve watched his vids on YouTube for a few years now and was finally able to attend a class and I’m so glad I did. I learned a LOT about situational awareness, pistol control, and many other things. I came out of the class a much better shooter than I ever was before. I feel much more confident that I could protect myself and others around me if ever needed. He has great teaching methods and teaches by showing and makes sure he spends individual time with each student as needed. I took the Rifle & Pistol Class in Shelton Washington with Mickey and he exceeded my expectations by a mile. I’ve struggled at times with being too anxious going to the range, worrying about those around me and looking like an amateur so my focus at this class was confidence. The way it’s structured focuses on safety, the who’s why’s and how’s of applying deadly force and the potential aftermath. While all the students went through over 1000 rounds of ammo over 3 days, every round had an objective, a task and a reason the round went down range. We learned the mechanics of drawing from the holster, deploying your rifle, the use of both weapons interchangeably while moving, along with what to do when a malfunction occurs, when and how to apply a tourniquet under duress to both yourself and others among several other medical situations… Each and every mistake(which I had plenty) or improper use of the tool made by anyone, was turned in to an opportunity to learn and Mickey allowed us to practice in between tasks to help hone our skills. By the end of the class, my confidence was the last thing on my mind. The final few tasks were so intense we all wished there were 2 more days of training to get in more reps. I took more from this class to work on at home than I can wrap up into a paragraph. I truly can’t thank Mickey enough for what are sure to be well engrained practices in all my training in the future. I will be back at the next training when @CarryTrainer returns. It was fun as hell!!!

I just took his class class weekend outside of Clarksville. It was way more than I could ever expect. Weather was not the greatest but everyone maintained a positive attitude. In my opinion, it was because both instructors pushed everyone and kept a positive attitude. Our class consisted of instruction and a lot of shooting. Everything we did we had a demonstration before hand. At no point did I think we were doing something that was not safe or that someone would get hurt. His classes are small so It does give him more opportunities for 1 on 1 instruction. Besides being the instructor he kicked jokes with everyone, talked about other things besides shooting, and was an all around cool guy to talk to. I am glad that I drove from Chicago all the way to Tennessee for his class. I will definitely attend another one of his classes.

I took Mickey’s 2-day course in California. The most significant yet simple piece of information that I took from Mickey’s training is grounded upon the idea that “you are exactly the shooter and person you have trained yourself to be.” As a result, it was natural for Mickey to stress the importance of subconscious and automatic skills. Interestingly enough, in challenging my automatic responses, Mickey taught me how to teach myself to become a better shooter.

During the course, we completed multiple drills and several unconventional drills that I had never done before. While some did not understand the reasoning for some of the drills, I came in with an open mind, a dead ego, and did my best to focus on reason for the drill.

I have had issues with accuracy prior to attending the course. During the first accuracy drill at 5 yards, I shot 10 rounds in a 3.5-inch group. By the end of the second day, we shot several hundred rounds, ran suicide drills in the sand, and were simply exhausted. We ended the day with an accuracy drill and my 10 round group shrank to 1.5 inches. As long as I practice, I’m sure to bring my grouping down to sub-inch in no time.

There is a wealth of information in Mickey’s courses. I am confident that if you keep an open mind, the information you receive will far exceed your expectations. Whether you use the information is up to you. Mickey is a consummate professional and he deserves my highest recommendation. I plan to take his course when he returns to California.

Before taking Mickey’s Fighting Pistol course, my handgun training consisted of nothing more than my CPL course and some self taught tactics. After the course, I am much more aware of everything I still need to refine, information I don’t know, and knowledge and skills I have yet to gain. Mickey is a top quality shooter, instructor, and guy. A man of great character, humor, and most of all seriousness that brings an extremely safe and positive attitude to the training no matter the students skill level. He is there to not only instruct but learn alongside the students and always asking those around him “why”; about every situation, movement, and thought associated with the training. I feel that my skills have greatly increased after the course thanks to Mickey’s wealth of knowledge and high skill set. I now have a better sense of how to move forward and continue my training and I hope to join Mickey again in the near future to train!

Before training with Mickey, all of my formal firearms training consisted of federal, state, and local law enforcement agency instruction. Although these courses were relevant and valuable, I felt that many of the instructors were unaware of the “why” behind their standardized curriculum. What made Mickey’s course different was the intellect behind his training. He has a reason for everything he does or doesn’t do, and has a genuine curiosity about the reasons why his students do what they do. Mickey’s quick wit and approachable nature made the two day course very enjoyable, and I would recommend his instruction to both the novice and the experienced. I hope to train with him again in the future.

I had an amazing experience with Mickey and his handgun training. Being a gun owner for over 5 years, with the sole purpose of protection and self-defense, I have taken some minor lessons, but now feel those were a complete waste of my time and money. Mickey took us through great weapon handling fundamentals, to shooting techniques for real world scenarios. My confidence level in my ability to utilize my handgun is far beyond what I thought I would ever have learned over a two day period. I now have precise techniques and situations to practice when I go to the range. I will absolutely sign up for another of Mickey’s courses and would recommend him to anyone. He makes even the most novice students feel safe and confident all while being taught in a lighthearted yet serious manner.

This was my 1st pistol class. I wasn’t sure what to expect espically being a female shooter; however there were 3 other females in this class. Mickey was extremely thorough in his explanations throughout the entire course. I’m more of a visual learner so the fact that he was able to proficiently demonstrate everything he explained was huge for me. Mickeys Instructional method was also presented in a conversational manner making it more relatable for someone like myself with little experience. The purpose of his class is to enable the practitioner to more effectively deploy a pistol as a tool for self rescue And I feel after his class I could comfortably do so.

I recently participated in the Carry Trainer Handgun Self-Defense class, taught by Mickey Schuch. This was not a beginner-level class (i.e. for new shooters), however Mickey still offered grace sufficient for the wide bandwidth of experience evident among trainees. There was an appropriate amount of individualized coaching throughout the two-day course, without loss of the top-down instruction I expected. The class offered a good range of content, from drills and scenario-based movement to theory and mindset assessment. Instruction method was presented in a conversational manner- questions invited and varying opinions allowable. Still, Mickey gave a focused and evidence-based approach to handgun defense. I learned a lot from the others in the class, but I learned much more about myself. I gained a clear understanding of the fighting mindset, and left with new techniques and strategies to improve in a few specific areas. “Did you hit, did it work, do you need to re-engage?” I will be on the lookout for future classes taught by Mickey in my area.

Top notch training delivered in a fun, no pressure atmosphere. Mickey clearly has a great amount of knowledge and experience and delivers it to his students in an instructional manner that calms even the most nervous beginner….turning them into competent (or better) shooters and, just as important, helps instill a clear mindset around defensive pistol fighting. I don’t say this often, but I got more than I paid for from the class. Bonus points…Mickey is a great guy. Firearms are not the only thing in his heart and it shows.

    Mickey,
Thank you for making my first genuine experience handling a firearm such an awesome experience. Your focus on safety while working on firearm fundamentals was way above any expectations I had when I signed up for this course. To be honest, I did not know what I expected. My only other experience shooting a firearm was during my CCL training and after taking your course, I realized that I did not learn very much about firearms during that course. However, I now feel that I have the skills I need to keep me alive during any situation. Anyone with a license to carry should take your class and I will be sure to refer anyone looking to get their CCL to look you guys up. The right mixture of seriousness and lightheartedness, with care and knowledge will keep me coming back for more! Looking forward to working with you guys again!

I just completed the 1 day pistol tune / cary training course with Mickey and Carry Trainer and it was a great day of shooting and training. Mick was able to immediately access the class and bring us a range of drills that added up to a new set of skill development. His emphasis on ‘real situation’ helps make the paper targets disappear and get your mind in a more situational mode. He knows how to deliver positive feedback, mixing humor with extremely good shooting form examples (Him and Sang) to learn from. Oh, he isn’t afraid of a challenge on the range… or a holstered hug so watch out! Mick makes learning how to be a better, more confident shooter enjoyable and that’s why I want to take another class with him and Carry Trainer. Lastly, he likes to share his gear but don’t try to steal it because he’ll blame Sang and that’s no goods.

Mickey thank you so much. This was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. I thought we were going to make little groups on paper, because that’s what so many classes teach you. This gun fighting class brought me into a warrior mindset I have never been able to achieve. You and Sang do such awesome and meaningful work. I now can see first hand that your passion for people and the protection of people is a huge part of who you are as a man. Thank you for everything you taught me, these techniques will be practiced daily.

I think Mickey is very dedicated and passionate about teaching firearms skills and handing to a wide range of students. He really cares about doing a great job. His YouTube videos at the CarryTrainer channel are some of the best out there.

I could not be happier that I chose this class for my CCL training. The experience was way above my expectations and the value for the money is huge. The personalized attention improved my shooting skills immensely in a short amount of time. The knowledge and experience is brought forward in a professional manner that makes it easy to learn. I have already been recommending this class to others. If you are really serious about a CCL license and the responsibility it carries, Carry Trainer is the only way to go. Thanks to Mickey and Sang
