Took a 2-day Rifle/Pistol (one day or each) class with Frank in Mt Carroll, IL. The class was fairly large, ~15 people, with various skill levels, clustered around what I’d estimate as an “intermediate-level”.

The portion on the rifle centered around building the position and learning how to process visual inputs. The portion with the pistol centered a lot on the grip again and how to visually drive the gun while targeting. After the presentations, it pretty much opened up as a “self-guided practice session”.

I had high expectations for the class, mostly due to Frank’s reputation and his videos (which I watched before the class): When I take a class I’m really looking for a some insights and some coaching, but it didn’t pan out due to the size of the class.
There were some insights here and there, but nothing that I’d call earth shattering or cohesive. Couple all of that with a lack of curriculum, really, and it became difficult to even build upon one “unit” of knowledge in any decent way.

The shame was that talking to Frank about some of his beliefs on vision/processing speed/etc. was fascinating, but the discussions were exceedingly short because he had to managed the rest of the class.

I recently attended a carbine and pistol course, and the instruction was great. First – Frank’s material truly does try to make you a faster shooter and it was way ahead of some of the institutional training I’ve had before. Second – he keeps everything simple. Finally – the drills do a great job of reinforcing what he’s trying to teach. Most importantly, he keeps the atmosphere relaxed which makes shooting fun.

I had the pleasure of training with Frank recently and the experience couldn’t have been my productive. He has the ability to use realistic analogies and experience to relate information that you can retain and apply to your shooting immediately.

I would train with Frank anytime and would recommend that anyone that has the chance does.

Biography

I have served over 18 years in the military, the last 11 of those in US Army Special Forces. Over the last 7 years I have trained DOD personnel in Combat Marksmanship, Close Quarters Battle, Breaching and Sniper/Observer Operations in addition to deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. During my Special Forces Career I have had the privilege to serve with and learn from many experienced and knowledgeable Special Forces Operators, I have learned from their combined years of knowledge and experience as well as my own to help me become a better operator. After a couple years as an instructor for the Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course, I was drawn to competitive shooting in May of 2007. My passion for shooting helped earn the rank of Grand Master in Limited division in a little over a year. I also hold a Master ranking in IDPA Stock Service Pistol. I have learned a great deal from shooting in competition that has helped me become a better tactical shooter.
